Behind the Scenes
Model: Jake Cremer, born when stamps cost $0.22 and bacon was $1.65/lb .
Hometown:Mason City, Iowa
Sport Coat: Brown and blue plaid sport coat.
Born in Mason City, Iowa (which is also the birthplace of American composer and songwriter Meredith Wilson, The Music Man) he worked at a local men’s shop in high school, where he liked the idea of wearing a tie. That, or he knew he couldn’t write music, or sing. So we’ll label him The Menswear Man.
He matriculated at the University of Iowa, where he received an Economics degree with a concentration in Philosophies and Ethics of Politics, Law and Economics. All of which clearly prepared and qualified him for a career in the field of men’s fashion.
The lure of the big city took Jake to Chicago where he tried the corporate world, soon abandoning it to get back into menswear. It was in Chicago where he was exposed to domestic manufacturing, serving as the Director of Marketing & Made-to-Measure with Hart Schaffner & Marx.
Over time, the big city life lost it’s appeal. Remaining true to his Hawkeye roots the lure of the small city pulled Jake back to a simpler life and he ‘volunteered’ to move to Cleveland, Tennessee and be a prominent part of the new Hardwick Clothes.
It also helped that the new owner of Hardwick thought Jake wrestled at the University of Iowa, as opposed to just wrestling in Iowa.
While he never considered a move south before the opportunity at Hardwick, he can hardly imagine an alternative, noting the friendly people (and no state income tax) as some of his favorite parts. With 200 plus “friendly” women cutting, sewing and pressing in the Hardwick shop, Jake typically requires security when going out into plant.
Always the outdoorsman, he reached the summit of Mount Rainier in 2014 and has a beard to prove it. He may soon attempt Big Frog Mountain, close by to Cleveland, but at 4,222 feet, he might consider adding another member to his climbing crew: the newest addition to his family, Penelope, a little Liver & White Brittany Spaniel
